PRODUCTION NOTES
The Challenge
The interior block incorporates multiple nested 6-page gatefolds across signatures, where fold directions must strictly match updated imposition proofs. Incorrect folding directions or registration drift during machine folding can lead to misaligned artwork transitions or creasing along the spine during casing-in.
Our Solution
Engineered custom folding sequences and adjusted fold plates specifically for the multi-panel gatefolds. Pre-production folding dummies were validated against updated imposition proofs prior to mass production, and continuous mechanical registration checks were enforced during signature gathering.
The Challenge
The outer cover requires 4-color offset printing wrapped over a 2.0mm rigid greyboard, followed by single-sided film lamination. Darker or highly saturated cover artwork is susceptible to scuffing during automatic casing-in and international shipping, while film lamination can inadvertently shift ink tones.
Our Solution
Applied a premium anti-scratch matte film to the printed cover sheets, providing superior scuff and abrasion resistance. Post-lamination color matching was conducted against approved digital proofs, ensuring stable color fidelity before machine casing.
The Challenge
With a finished spine thickness of approximately 10.5mm, assembling a square-spine hardcover—including custom yellow headbands (JHT-085), printed endpapers, and individual shrink-wrapping with barcode labels—requires strict tolerance controls to avoid spine warping or label placement errors.
Our Solution
Calibrated casing-in machinery for thin-spine square binding, maintaining uniform adhesive application and vertical board grain orientation (2.0mm greyboard). Automated shrink-wrapping was paired with designated manual sticker-application guides to guarantee precise barcode placement on every copy.
