PRODUCTION NOTES

The "Light & Shadow" of Jewelry Photography

The Challenge

The monograph features the work of a master jeweler, with images dominated by gemstones and precious metals against dark backgrounds.

Printing Difficulty: Jewelry photography relies on "micro-contrast." If dot gain is not precisely controlled, the facets of a gem will look muddy, losing their "fire." Conversely, if highlights are blown out, metal textures can appear plastic. The client strictly mandated adherence to the Fogra 51 standard (Curve: AC2018-210L-Fogra51), demanding exceptional color fidelity.

Our Solution

Standardized Color Management (Fogra 51): We strictly followed ISO 12647-2 standards using the Fogra 51 curve. This ensured that on the 200gsm matte art paper, the darks remained deep while the spectral highlights of the gems matched the original proofs perfectly.

Wet Proof Matching: The instruction emphasized "Match wet ink to signed OK sheet." Our press captains used high-density scanning to micro-adjust ink keys in real-time, ensuring every gem retained the saturation and luster approved by the designer.

Fear of the Dark – Protecting Large Solid Blacks

The Challenge

The cover design requires printing complex imagery directly onto "JHT-8010 White High-end Printing Cloth". Printing on fabric is notoriously difficult because standard offset ink soaks into the fibers, causing images to look blurry and colors to lose saturation.

Our Solution

Custom Hybrid Varnish: We utilized a specific "Spot Hybrid Varnish" formula. This custom mix provided a physical protective layer against scuffing while balancing the gloss level—keeping the blacks deep and non-reflective to let the jewelry images pop.

Touch-Free Handling Protocol: From the press delivery to folding, we implemented a "Solid Black Handling Standard," ensuring zero scratches during high-speed mechanical transport.
