PRODUCTION NOTES
The Challenge
The publication requires the exact same photographic artwork to be printed on both the 3.0mm hardcover case and the outer dust jacket. Applying a protective anti-scuff matt lamination across two different production streams introduces a high risk of subtle color shifts, gloss variations, or density mismatches between the jacket and the underlying case when displayed together.
Our Solution
Conduct pre-production press-sheet lamination testing using dedicated proofing curves. Press operators perform inline spectrophotometric color matching, adjusting target ink densities to compensate for tonal shifts caused by the anti-scuff film. This guarantees flawless visual unity across both the outer jacket and inner hardcover case.
The Challenge
The interior block features continuous, vibrant mountain landscapes designed as full-page double spreads that cross directly through the spine center. Executing mechanical folding, gathering, and Smyth-sewn binding across an 80-page self-end paper block creates a risk of image misalignment at the gutter or graphic clipping along the spine seam.
Our Solution
Implement strict mechanical tolerances during machine folding and gathering by standardizing gripper and pull-guide settings across all 5 signature signatures. Fine-tune thread tensioning during the Smyth-sewing process to maintain flat-opening spreads, ensuring panoramic landscape artwork aligns continuously across every page junction without gutter loss.
The Challenge
The dust jacket features wide 120mm front and back flaps that require localized spot gloss UV accents laid directly over a soft-touch, anti-scuff matt laminated film. Performing high-viscosity screen printing on a large 750mm × 362mm sheet risks UV edge bleeding, screen registration drift, or surface cracking during post-press flap folding.
Our Solution
Utilize precision 120T silk screen meshes paired with specialized UV varnishes specifically formulated for enhanced adhesion on anti-scuff films. Execute specialized mechanical creasing along the flap fold lines prior to jacket wrapping, ensuring pinpoint spot UV registration over key graphic elements and razor-sharp, crack-free flap folds.
