PRODUCTION NOTES
The Challenge
The publication features a floating spine-wrap structure where the spine element is attached strictly to the back cover along a narrow 33mm glued zone, leaving the spine and front cover loose. This design presents a high risk of glue squeeze-out, misalignment during trimming, or tearing of the spine wrap during final three-side cutting.
Our Solution
Engineered a custom screen-printing adhesive application process with precise margin controls to restrict glue coverage to the 33mm area on the back cover. Temporary head and tail bleed attachments were applied during binding to hold the floating wrap securely in place, guaranteeing clean edges and perfect logo alignment during final cutting.
The Challenge
The interior block integrates multi-format specialty components, including scale-fold gatefolds, short-page tip-ins, and a detachable pull-out poster with a micro-perforated tear line. Handling multiple paper weights (105g natural white and 120g specialty stock) creates alignment and registration challenges during high-speed folding and tipping.
Our Solution:
Our Solution
Custom laser die-cutting and scoring plates were developed to pre-crease fold lines and perforated tears. Manual tipping stations were paired with specialized folding jigs, ensuring exact back-spine flush positioning across all tipping points without compromising the structural integrity of the main signatures.
The Challenge
The cover and belly band require multiple finishing passes, including Pantone spot color printing, blind embossing, glossy black foil stamping, and asymmetric belly band folding. Heavy ink coverage and foil applications across delicate specialty paper increase the risk of scuffing, ink set-off, or registration drift between the blind embossing frame and inner imagery.
Our Solution
Utilized single-pass LED offset printing to ensure rapid ink drying and eliminate set-off on specialty paper. High-precision die-stamping plates were custom-aligned to frame the blind embossed elements perfectly. Asymmetric folding machines were calibrated to lock the height differential (118mm/117mm) on the belly band, ensuring clean gold-foiled edge alignment.
